What inspires me and what I fight for
In 2012 I travelled with Robert Swan as part of the Leadership on the Edge program for future sustainability leaders. There I experienced the magic of the last great wilderness, and developed my deep respect for the science, and reverence for the natural world. Importantly, I learnt of the science of climate change and its impact on the world’s driest continent. It is a fire that I hold close to my heart.
My grandfather was instrumental in leading the global movement to protect Antarctica indefinitely. It was one of his greatest environmental legacies.
Taking meaningful and timely action on climate is critical for global social and environmental justice. Our failure to do so puts future generations and entire ecosystems at risk. We must stop delaying the cost of change now, for all we do is load our future citizens with a debt that they cannot repay.
I want my children to be able to marvel at the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef, be safe from resource conflict and extreme climate events, and enjoy the benefits of a thriving natural world.
While I am am in love with the natural world, I have a particular passion for our Australian Landscape, and its flora and fauna. Through our traditional owners, we have had a special relationship with this land for tens of thousands of years. It is unique, powerful, diverse and vast.
“Growing up, I would go bush on my horse, exploring the beach and forests of NSW south coast. It is where the love affair started. Today, I view from the air - my husband and I explore Australia in our single engine aircraft, which takes us to some of the most beautiful parts of this corner of the Earth. It is my deep respect for the Australian landscape, and us citizens its caretakers, guests and partners, that lead me to take on my role as Landcare Ambassador, celebrating 30 years of my Grandfather's legacy.
